Gratitude Underlies Our 2020 HIE Reflections
While the pandemic exposed many vulnerabilities in our health care system, we here at KPI Ninja like to remain positive – and there were so many great things that happened this year!
The best part of our 2020? Health organizations of all sizes now have a greater appreciation for the critically important role that Health Information Exchanges (HIEs) play in impacting health outcomes. We saw this loud and clear in two very real and tangible ways this year . . .
#1 Easier Pandemic Response with Interoperable Analytics
When the pandemic hit, health stakeholders turned to HIEs to help solve their complex data pain points.
With frequent changes in an uncertain environment compounded with persistent interoperability challenges, we knew our place in helping to flatten the curve. We worked with our HIE clients to lay out a plan to test out new ideas, iterate and build effective pandemic analytics. This included meeting the needs of numerous stakeholders, setting bold records, creating new partnerships and collaborating with other vendors to help HIEs support payers, hospitals, providers, first responders, national and local authorities make swift, data-driven decisions.
#2 Advancing Population Health, Beyond COVID-19
In a time when most HIEs were primarily focused on COVID-19, leading HIEs continued to advance their quality initiatives in tandem. With HIE presence and population health bigger than ever in 2020, this year we made similar moves by continuing to share our HIE population health knowledge and prove our capabilities by earning three new certifications. From this, the net result is that more HIE use cases brought forth by different stakeholders can be solved.
2020 also marks the start of our exciting partnership with the Idaho Health Data Exchange and the great honour we had of leading a thought-provoking session with three leading HIEs during SHIEC’s annual conference. If you have doubts about the capability of a population health strategy, this session might provide you some insights that could change your mind.
The changes we have witnessed this year might just be a sign that health data ecosystems are evolving, and we should continue advancing the positioning of HIEs as the solution to enabling value-based care at scale.
With the overall collective uncertainty this year has brought us, thank you for your graciousness and partnership – calls after hours and on weekends, distractions from kids and pets, being flexible with the ever-evolving needs.
